Proof of a distant time when splendid fortresses and strongholds were built on the lake coast to defend the villages on Lake Garda is the imposing Scaliger Castle, with its walls at the surface of the water, built by the Della Scala family, a name that echoes in the work of Dante Alighieri.
And another poet joins Dante, with his estate in Sirmione: we are talking about Catullus, who gives his name to the famous Caves. Perhaps he was writing about love at the same point where you can sit, now, observing Lake Garda.
