Arte e Cultura sul Lago di Garda

You use a glass mirror to see your face: you use works of art to see your soul.” as the Irish writer George Bernard Shaw used to say, this is truer than ever in Sirmione. In our art we find our history and our essence, we discover our roots.

Sirmione

Proof of a distant time when splendid fortresses and strongholds were built on the lake coast to defend the villages on Lake Garda is the imposing Scaliger Castle, with its walls at the surface of the water, built by the Della Scala family, a name that echoes in the work of Dante Alighieri.
And another poet joins Dante, with his estate in Sirmione: we are talking about Catullus, who gives his name to the famous Caves. Perhaps he was writing about love at the same point where you can sit, now, observing Lake Garda.
A story, the one of Sirmione, which has its roots up to the Neolithic distance and which has lasted for thousands of years to get to us, today, in a mosaic of art and culture that is manifested in all its forms: from architecture to the earthliest food in the plate.

To visit:

• Scaliger Castle
•Church of Santa Maria Maggiore
•Church of San Pietro in Mavino
•Caves of Catullo

In vino veritas…

Sirmione is located in the middle of a small and precious D.O.C. recognized area, the Land of Lugana.
This region, well known to wine lovers, extends on the southern shore of Lake Garda, from Desenzano to the Verona town of Peschiera del Garda, embracing the inland municipalities of Pozzolengo and Lonato.
Discover the many small wineries in the territory of Lugana and let yourself be unveiled, during the tastings, the secret of this extraordinary white wine.

Heller Botanical Garden, Gardone

Among the wonders that Lake Garda offers, with its forms of entertainment and its customs and traditions, the Heller Botanical Garden, in Gardone Riviera, stands out without a doubt.

Ten thousand square meters of nature and work of art, for a unique spectacle in the world (we should not be surprised, since it bears the name of one of the greatest multi-media artists in the world).

In short, if you’re used to sterile gardens without a soul, at Heller you’ll have to take another look! Open every day from March to October, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., to cheer your hearts, as they say.

Il Vittoriale, Gardone

And still in Gardone we find our next destination: we are talking about the Vittoriale, an agglomeration of buildings, gardens, watercourses and an open-air theatre created in the twentieth century and which today has become a destination for all tourists in the world.
Why? To breathe the same air as one of the greatest authors of our peninsula: Gabriele D’Annunzio.
From the Prioria, which contains over 10,000 objects and 33,000 books, one of the most fitting symbols of D’Annunzio’s mind and aesthetic taste, to the two museums dedicated to him, passing through the Puglia ship and the Mausoleum.
In short, one of the richest testimonies of one of the men who shaped the history and art of our country.

Garda Island, San Felice

Turning our gaze towards the interior of the Lake, our attention cannot help but fall on the Island of Garda, the largest strip of land hosted by the lake waters.
This attention is therefore directed towards the places where the hermitage of other great men had been built, from Francis of Assisi, who created a hermitage in the northern part, to Dante Alighieri.
Today it houses a splendid villa in Neo-Gothic-Venetian style that is still cared for today by the descendants of those who built it and who, since 2002, have opened the island to tourist visits.

Mille Miglia Museum, Brescia

And if you’re not satisfied with history, then you can not miss the Mille Miglia Museum in Brescia, which contains more than one hundred thousand documents from the period between 1927 and 1957.

An oasis where congresses are held and where you can admire some of the most beautiful vintage cars in the world, cars that still seem to whisper secrets, hidden since the years of their construction.

Every vehicle has a unique beauty and a story that awaits to be told… don’t miss it!
